If you’re trying to pin down the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton, you’ve probably noticed that every supplier gives you a different number. Some of that is normal. The price depends on the grade, the packing, the volume, where it ships from and where it’s going. Some of it is noise. We’re DThai Company Limited, and we sell refined high oleic sunflower oil in bulk and in bottles to food factories, restaurants, distributors and private label brands worldwide. This guide explains what drives the price, what a fair range looks like right now, and the specs you should be getting for your money.

High Oleic Sunflower Oil Price Per Ton: The Current Range

Around the middle of 2026, refined, bleached, deodorized and winterized (RBDW) high oleic sunflower oil was trading at roughly 1,300 to 1,450 US dollars per ton FOB at the main Black Sea ports. Regular refined sunflower oil was around 1,100 to 1,250 dollars at the same time. So the high oleic premium was about 150 to 250 dollars per ton.

Treat those figures as a guide, not a quote. The high oleic sunflower oil price per ton moves with the seed harvest, the war risk in the Black Sea, palm and soybean oil prices, freight and exchange rates. It can shift by 50 dollars or more in a few weeks, so any high oleic sunflower oil price per ton you see online is a snapshot, not a promise.

Grade (bulk, FOB basis)Indicative range, mid-2026
Crude sunflower oil (regular)About USD 950 to 1,050 per ton
Refined sunflower oil (regular)About USD 1,100 to 1,250 per ton
Refined high oleic sunflower oilAbout USD 1,300 to 1,450 per ton
Bottled or packed oilBulk price plus packing, usually a further USD 100 to 300 per ton

What Is High Oleic Sunflower Oil?

High oleic sunflower oil comes from sunflower varieties bred to make oil rich in oleic acid, the same monounsaturated fat that olive oil is known for. Regular sunflower oil is mostly linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated fat that breaks down faster under heat.

To count as high oleic under the Codex standard, the oil needs at least 75% oleic acid. Good commercial lots usually run 80 to 90%. There’s also a mid oleic grade, roughly 43 to 72% oleic, which sits between the two. You can read more about the different types on the sunflower oil page on Wikipedia.

Why does this matter? Because high oleic oil is far more stable. It lasts much longer in a fryer, it doesn’t go rancid as fast on the shelf, and it doesn’t need hydrogenation, so there are no trans fats. That’s what buyers are paying for when they pay the premium, and it’s the main reason the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton sits above regular oil.

What Moves the High Oleic Sunflower Oil Price Per Ton

There are a lot of moving parts. These are the big ones.

1. The sunflower seed crop

Most of the world’s sunflower oil comes from a handful of regions around the Black Sea, plus Argentina and parts of the EU. When the harvest in those areas is poor, seed prices rise and oil follows. High oleic seed is grown under contract and in smaller volumes, so a bad year hits the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton harder than regular oil.

2. The premium for high oleic seed

Farmers get paid extra to grow high oleic varieties and keep them separate from regular seed. Crushers then run separate lines so the two don’t mix. All of that adds cost, and it’s why the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton always sits above regular oil.

3. Other vegetable oils

Sunflower competes with palm, soybean and rapeseed oil. When palm oil gets expensive, buyers switch to sunflower and push its price up. When palm is cheap, the reverse happens, and the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton tends to ease too.

4. Energy and biodiesel

Vegetable oils are used to make biodiesel, so the crude oil price and biofuel rules have a knock-on effect on food oil prices too.

5. Freight and war risk

Shipping costs, insurance and the security situation in the Black Sea all feed into the price you pay at your port. A CIF high oleic sunflower oil price per ton can move even when the FOB price doesn’t.

6. Exchange rates

Oil is priced in US dollars, so the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton is a dollar figure. If your currency weakens, your local cost goes up even if the dollar price stays flat.

7. Packing and volume

This is the one you control. A full flexitank costs less per ton than drums, and drums cost less per ton than retail bottles. Bigger, regular orders also get better prices than a single trial container.

How Packing Changes the Price

Packing can add more to the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton than most buyers expect. Here’s roughly what fits in a 20ft container and how each option compares on cost:

PackingApprox. net load per 20ftCost per ton vs bulkBest for

If you run a big plant with tank storage, flexitank is almost always the cheapest. We wrote a full guide on bulk sunflower oil in flexitank covering capacity and safe loading. For smaller users, jerry cans or drums are easier to handle even though they push up the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton.

FOB, CFR and CIF: Which Price Are You Comparing?

A lot of confusion around the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton comes from comparing prices on different terms. An FOB price doesn’t include freight. A CIF price includes freight and insurance to your port. If one supplier quotes FOB and another quotes CIF, you’re not comparing the same thing.

Always ask for the price on the same basis, to the same port, for the same packing. Then compare the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton line by line. We quote FOB, CFR or CIF, whichever you prefer.

How Destination Changes Your Landed Price

Two buyers can pay the same FOB price and end up with very different costs on the ground. After the FOB high oleic sunflower oil price per ton, you still have to add:

Short routes inside Asia usually add the least. Long routes to the Americas or West Africa add more. When you ask us for a CIF quote, we work out the freight to your port so you see the delivered high oleic sunflower oil price per ton in one figure, not a puzzle you have to put together yourself.

Ask your customs broker about duty before you order. Some countries charge less on crude oil than refined, or less on bulk than on bottles, and that can change which option is cheapest for you.

Is the Premium Worth It?

For most frying and food manufacturing, yes. Here’s why buyers pay the extra:

If you only use oil for light cooking, salad dressings or quick sauces, regular refined sunflower oil may be all you need. For deep frying and anything that has to sit on a shelf for months, the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton usually pays for itself.

High Oleic vs Mid Oleic vs Regular: Price and Use

It helps to see the three main types next to each other. The high oleic sunflower oil price per ton makes more sense once you see what you get compared with the cheaper grades.

Regular (linoleic)Mid oleicHigh oleic

Mid oleic is a fair compromise for some kitchens. But if fry life and shelf life are what you care about, high oleic is the one to price.

A Worked Example: From Price Per Ton to Cost Per Fryer

Numbers on a quote don’t mean much until you put them into your own operation. Here’s a simple way to think about it.

Say regular refined oil costs you 200 dollars per ton less than high oleic, delivered. In a busy commercial fryer, regular oil might need changing every three days. High oleic might last seven or eight days in the same fryer. You’re buying less than half the amount of oil over a month.

In that case the higher high oleic sunflower oil price per ton is more than paid back. You use fewer tons, you spend less time cleaning fryers, and your food tastes more consistent from Monday to Sunday. Snack makers see the same thing in shelf life: fewer complaints about stale product and fewer returns.

Every kitchen and factory is different, so test it. Run a sample side by side with your current oil, count the days, and then compare the real cost, not just the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton on the invoice.

Storing High Oleic Oil After Delivery

You paid a premium for a stable oil, so store it in a way that keeps it that way:

Store it well and it will stay inside spec for 18 to 24 months.

How to Get a Fair Price

A few habits will get you a better high oleic sunflower oil price per ton and fewer surprises:

  1. Ask for the oleic acid figure in writing. “High oleic” with no number could mean anything. Insist on 75% min, ideally 80% or more.
  2. Compare on the same terms. Same Incoterm, same port, same packing.
  3. Order a sample. Fry with it. Check the color, the smell and how long it lasts.
  4. Book in volume if you can. A six or twelve month contract usually beats buying spot every month.
  5. Use independent inspection. It costs little and protects you against short weight or off-spec oil.
  6. Watch for prices that look too good. If the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton you’re offered is far below regular refined oil, something is wrong. It’s either not high oleic, not real, or both.

Red Flags in Sunflower Oil Offers

Edible oil has its share of fake sellers. Be careful with anyone who:

We cover how to check a supplier properly in our sunflower oil supplier buyer’s guide.

Documents With Every Shipment

Minimum Order and Lead Time

Our minimum order is one 20ft container. For flexitank, that’s about 20 to 22 tons. For bottles or jerry cans, it’s a full container of packed oil, and you can mix pack sizes in that container.

Lead time is usually two to four weeks after the contract is signed, and longer for private label bottles on the first order while labels are printed. For regular buyers, our supply contracts fix the volume and the pricing basis so you’re not chasing the high oleic sunflower oil price per ton every month.

Shipping Worldwide

We ship sunflower oil to Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, North and South America and Oceania. Tell us your port and we’ll quote you CIF with freight included, or FOB if you have your own forwarder. More on routes and timing is on our worldwide shipping page.
