The jasmine rice price per ton is one of the most searched numbers in the rice trade, and one of the most confusing. You’ll see offers anywhere from $450 to well over $1,200 a ton, all called “jasmine.” They’re not the same rice. We’re DThai Company Limited in Bangkok, and we sell genuine Thai Hom Mali jasmine rice, plus Thai fragrant rice, to importers and wholesalers worldwide. This guide explains what jasmine rice costs in 2026, why the range is so wide, and how to make sure you’re paying Hom Mali prices for Hom Mali rice.

Jasmine Rice Price Per Ton: The Short Answer
Genuine Thai Hom Mali is the top of the jasmine market. In the first quarter of 2026, Thai Hom Mali was trading at roughly $1,100 to $1,120 per ton FOB Bangkok. By August it had climbed to around $1,200 to $1,250 per ton.
Other “jasmine” rice sells for much less:
| Rice | Indicative price, 2026 (FOB) | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Thai Hom Mali jasmine | About USD 1,100 to 1,250 per ton | Genuine Thai jasmine, the benchmark |
| Thai fragrant rice | Well below Hom Mali | Thai aromatic rice from other varieties |
| Cambodian jasmine | About USD 800 per ton (Aug 2026) | Fragrant rice from Cambodia |
| Vietnamese “jasmine” | About USD 430 per ton (early 2026) | Vietnamese fragrant variety, a different rice |
| Thai 5% white rice | About USD 440 to 450 per ton (Aug 2026) | Non-aromatic white rice, for comparison |
So when someone quotes you a jasmine rice price per ton of $600 and calls it Thai Hom Mali, something doesn’t add up. Either it isn’t Hom Mali, or it’s blended, or the offer isn’t real.
Treat these as a guide. Prices change every week. Ask us for today’s figure.
Why Thai Hom Mali Costs So Much More
Thai Hom Mali isn’t just a type of rice. It’s a specific group of varieties, grown mainly in northeastern Thailand, harvested once a year, and graded to a national standard.
Several things push the jasmine rice price per ton for Hom Mali well above other rice:
- One crop a year. Hom Mali is mostly a main-season crop, harvested around November and December. Supply is limited.
- Lower yields. Farmers get fewer tons per field than with ordinary white rice.
- The growing area. The best Hom Mali comes from the northeast, where soil and climate bring out the aroma.
- Purity standards. Genuine Hom Mali has to meet a minimum share of Hom Mali grains under the Thai standard.
- Demand. Buyers in China, Hong Kong, the US, the Middle East and West Africa pay a premium for it.
That’s why the jasmine rice price per ton for Thai Hom Mali is usually well over double the price of Thai white rice.
What Moved Jasmine Prices in 2026
Prices have climbed through 2026. A few reasons:
- Tighter Thai supplies after the main harvest was sold through.
- Concerns about weather for the coming crop.
- A stronger Thai baht at times, which pushes up dollar prices.
- Shipping disruption into the Middle East, which raised freight and changed buying patterns.
At the same time, cheaper fragrant rice from Cambodia and Vietnam widened the gap with Thai Hom Mali. By August 2026 Cambodian jasmine was quoted up to $400 a ton below Thai Hom Mali, compared with a gap of around $50 before. Thai Hom Mali exports fell over the same period as some price-sensitive buyers switched.
For you, that means two things. If your customers want genuine Thai Hom Mali, expect to pay a higher jasmine rice price per ton than last year. If they just want “fragrant rice,” there are cheaper options. The key is knowing which one you’re buying.
Jasmine Rice Price Per Ton Over 2026, Month by Month
Here’s how the year has gone, in plain terms. These are indicative FOB Bangkok levels for Thai Hom Mali.
- January and February: around $1,100 to $1,120 per ton. The new crop from the end of 2025 was moving, and demand was steady.
- Spring and mid-year: Thai rice prices generally firmed as supplies tightened after the harvest, with weather worries for the coming crop and higher freight adding to it.
- August: around $1,200 to $1,250 per ton, while cheaper Cambodian and Vietnamese fragrant rice widened the gap.
The next big change usually comes with the new crop at the end of the year. Once the harvest size is known, the jasmine rice price per ton tends to settle, either easing on a good crop or firming on a poor one. If you buy for the first half of 2027, now is a good time to talk to us about new crop timing and volumes.
Hom Mali vs Thai Fragrant vs Other Jasmine
Here’s how the main jasmine-type rices compare, and why each sits at a different jasmine rice price per ton.
Thai Hom Mali
The original and the benchmark. Long, slender grains, very soft and fragrant when cooked, especially as new crop. It meets the Thai national standard for Hom Mali purity. Our guide on TAS 4000 Hom Mali rice explains the standard.
Thai fragrant rice
Aromatic Thai rice from other varieties, often called Pathum Thani fragrant rice. Good aroma, soft texture, noticeably cheaper than Hom Mali. A solid choice for buyers who want a Thai fragrant grain at a lower jasmine rice price per ton. See our Thai fragrant rice for sale and our guide to choosing a Thai fragrant rice supplier.
Cambodian jasmine
Cambodia grows good fragrant rice at a lower jasmine rice price per ton and has become a real competitor. It’s cheaper than Thai Hom Mali, and some buyers are happy with it.
Vietnamese “jasmine”
Vietnam sells fragrant varieties under the jasmine name. It’s a different rice, much cheaper, and cooks differently. Our comparison of Thai jasmine rice vs Vietnamese jasmine rice goes into the details.

New Crop vs Old Crop
The crop year is one of the biggest factors in the jasmine rice price per ton.
New crop Hom Mali, harvested around November and December, is at its softest and most fragrant. Buyers in Hong Kong, China and many other markets pay a premium for it in the early months of the year. As the rice ages, it cooks a little firmer and the aroma fades slightly, and the price usually follows.
Some buyers actually prefer slightly aged rice because it’s less sticky. Tell us what your customers like. Our guide on the Thai jasmine rice new crop season explains the harvest calendar and when to order.
How Packing Changes the Jasmine Rice Price Per Ton
Jasmine rice is often sold in smaller retail bags, and packing adds up.
| Packing | How it compares | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 50kg PP bags | Base price | Wholesalers, food service |
| 25kg PP bags | Slightly higher | Markets where 50kg is too heavy |
| 5kg and 10kg printed bags | Higher | Retail and supermarkets |
| Your own branded bags | Depends on print run | Private label brands |
| Jumbo bags | Similar to 50kg | Repackers with their own lines |
Small printed bags cost more per ton because of the film, printing, labor and cartons. If you repack locally, buying in 25kg or 50kg bags can give you a better jasmine rice price per ton. For more on bags and liners, see our guide to rice packaging for export. For your own brand, read about working with a private label rice supplier.
What Goes Into a Quote
Here’s how a jasmine rice price per ton is built:
| Layer | What it covers | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Paddy and milling | Hom Mali paddy, milling, grading, sortexing | Seller |
| Packing | Bags, printing, cartons if any | Seller |
| Inland transport and loading | Mill to port, container stuffing | Seller (FOB) |
| Inspection and fumigation | Surveyor, lab tests, fumigation | Agreed in contract |
| Ocean freight | Thailand to your port | Seller (CFR/CIF) or buyer (FOB) |
| Insurance | Cargo cover | Seller (CIF) or buyer |
| Duty and port costs | Import duty, clearing, trucking | Buyer |
When we quote, we show which layers are included. Our guide on FOB vs CIF for rice import explains how the Incoterm changes the number, and our guide on wholesale rice pricing covers rice quotes more generally.
A Worked Example
These numbers are only an example, not today’s offer.
Say Thai Hom Mali 100% Grade B is trading at around $1,200 per ton FOB in 50kg bags. You want it CIF to a port in West Africa, in 25kg bags.
Start with the FOB price. Add a little for the smaller bags. Add freight to your port, which for West Africa is usually a longer voyage with transshipment. Add insurance. Your landed jasmine rice price per ton ends up as FOB plus packing plus freight and insurance. Your country’s import duty and port costs come on top.
When we send you a quote, it breaks these lines out so you can see where the money goes.
How to Spot a Fake or Blended Jasmine Offer
Because genuine Hom Mali costs so much, blending is a real problem. Cheaper rice gets mixed in and the whole lot is sold as Thai jasmine.
Watch for these signs:
- A jasmine rice price per ton far below the Thai Hom Mali market
- No purity figure on the spec sheet, just the word “jasmine”
- No crop year stated
- Samples that smell faint or cook firm and dry
- Refusal to allow independent inspection
Our guide on genuine Hom Mali rice explains how to tell the real thing from a blend. The simplest protection is to ask for a purity test in the inspection certificate.
Why Two Suppliers Quote Different Jasmine Prices
Buyers often send us two or three quotes and ask why the jasmine rice price per ton is so different. Usually it’s one of these:
- One quote is for Thai Hom Mali, another for Thai fragrant or a different origin.
- One is 100% Grade B, the other 5% or 10% broken.
- One is new crop, the other old crop.
- One is FOB, the other CIF.
- One is 50kg bags, the other 5kg printed retail bags.
- One includes a purity test and inspection, the other doesn’t.
- The quotes were made on different dates.
Put them on the same grade, crop, packing, Incoterm and date. The gap that’s left is the real difference in jasmine rice price per ton between those suppliers. If one is still far cheaper, ask why before you sign.
Test Samples Before You Buy
The price on paper only means something if the rice matches it. Before a first order, test samples side by side:
- Look. Long, slender, translucent grains. Few chalky grains, few brokens.
- Smell the raw rice. Good Hom Mali has a clear, pleasant aroma even uncooked, especially new crop.
- Cook it. It should turn soft and slightly sticky, with a strong aroma while cooking.
- Let it cool. Genuine Hom Mali stays fairly soft. Blended rice often goes hard faster.
- Ask your customers. The people who’ll eat it are the best judges.
We send samples with lab results so you can do exactly this. It’s the simplest way to check that the jasmine rice price per ton you’re being offered matches the rice behind it.
Protecting Aroma in Storage
Aroma is what you’re paying the premium for, and it’s also the first thing to go if rice is stored badly. Heat, humidity and time all fade it.
A few habits protect it:
- Keep jasmine rice in a cool, dry warehouse, air-conditioned if you can.
- Keep it away from strong smells such as spices, fuel or chemicals. Rice absorbs them.
- Use stock in the order it arrived.
- Don’t overbuy. Plan orders so stock moves within a few months.
- For retail, sealed bags with a good liner keep aroma longer.
Paying a high jasmine rice price per ton for new crop and then letting it sit in a hot warehouse for six months wastes most of what you paid for. Good storage protects your margin.
Who Buys Jasmine Rice From Us
Different buyers look at the jasmine rice price per ton in different ways:
- Importers and wholesalers selling 25kg and 50kg bags want a fair price and a steady grade.
- Supermarket and private label brands want consistent quality and good-looking retail bags.
- Restaurants and food service want reliable cooking, batch after batch.
- Ethnic food distributors in Europe and the Americas want genuine Hom Mali their customers recognize.

How to Get a Better Jasmine Rice Price Per Ton
You can’t control the market, but you can control how you buy:
- Pick the right rice. If your customers are happy with Thai fragrant rice, don’t pay Hom Mali prices.
- Pick the right crop. Current crop can be cheaper than fresh new crop, and some customers prefer it.
- Buy in bigger bags and repack locally if labor is cheaper where you are.
- Fill your containers and buy regularly.
- Plan around the harvest. Booking ahead of the new crop gives you more choice.
- Lock in volume. A supply contract smooths out price swings across the year.
Documents and Inspection
Paperwork and inspection are already built into our jasmine rice price per ton. Every shipment comes with a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, fumigation certificate and a quality and weight certificate. Many buyers also want a Hom Mali certificate confirming the rice meets the Thai standard. We can arrange that, plus halal certificates on request.
You can appoint SGS or another surveyor at loading. Our guide to pre-shipment inspection for rice explains what they check. Our guide to bulk rice import documentation covers each paper.
Payment, Minimum Order and Shipping
Our minimum order is one 20ft container, about 25 tons. For a first order, most buyers pay by letter of credit at sight. Our guide on the letter of credit for rice import explains how it works.
Lead time is usually two to four weeks from contract to loading. We ship from Bangkok and Laem Chabang to buyers in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Oceania. See our shipping page.
